Growing up: 13 going on 15
Whenever someone asked me how old I was, I'd always say 13. Recently, however, I find myself hesitating before saying 13.

13 had always been sort of an arbitrary number. I look a lot younger than my age, and I also have an underdeveloped mindset towards the opposite sex, but there wasn't anything specific that bound me to the number 13.
For the longest time, I had been stuck in the young teens 'eww boys' mindset. ( I know that is no longer the case for young teens these days.) I would feel weird talking to guys, and feel awkward being alone with them. That has obviously changed since I came to Ottawa and started working, but it didn't mean I wasn't absolutely terrified when I first found out my division consisted mainly of guys.
I suppose the lack of friends kind of forced me to be less selective in gender, and it also helped that none of them felt to me like they had hidden agendas or ulterior motives.
Gradually, I discovered that guys actually make very good friends (some of them anyways), and I began to grow out of my 'eww boys' mindset. I had also become much better at handling social occasions and carrying conversations, and I feel that it is finally time to 'age'.
And just like how I came up with the number 13, I hereby declare that I am now 15!

Christmas Eve
To save money for London, I have long decided that I will spend my Christmas in Ottawa this year. I am ashamed of admitting it, but the last Christmas in Vancouver wasn't very eventful anyways, so I didn't think I was missing out too much. The most memorable part of it was texting BH on Christmas morning, and him telling me how his girlfriend is going to meet his parents that day.

One of the perks of staying in Ottawa is that we get a half day off on Christmas Eve. The downside is that most people (CY and BH included) had gone home for Christmas already, and only a few of us were around. In addition, with Ottawa being Ottawa, there was hardly anything worth doing.
In the end, I ended up going skating with KN, and then getting stuff to make dinner at his place. He is a very cool guy who knows a lot of people and random things, and it was fun talking to him. It was also easy since he isn't as nerdy as 'someone', and there was no underlying tension in the pure platonic friendship. From skating to dinner, we talked pretty much nonstop, and it was good to know that I wasn't as boring as a person as I thought I was.
I didn't leave until around 10pm, and when he asked me if I would be fine going on the bus alone, I said I will be, it's not that late. Then he offhandedly said, "BH would yell at me." (for not escorting me all the way home)
And that made me smile.
